Ushering in the Year of the Boar, The Singapore Mint Lunar Medallion features a trio of pigs under the full bloom of Sweet Osmanthus (桂花). Pigs are a prosperous symbol of abundance and fortune. Sweet Osmanthuses commonly signify auspiciousness and prestige. The character “桂“ in the Chinese name of the flower, shares the same pronunciation as “贵“, which means affluence. Hence, it also carries the meaning of the well-wishing saying “荣华富贵”, which means splendour, wealth and glory.
