The Musée d'Orsay is a national museum located in the 7th disctict of Paris, along the left bank of the Seine. Housed in the former train station built by Victor Laloux from 1898 to 1900, it was inaugurated on 9 December 1986. It was converted into a museum of the arts of the 19th century.

Le Petit Palais is a historical monument in Paris, now used as a museum of fine arts. It was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900 by architect Charles Girault. It is situated in the 8th district, on Winston Churchill Avenue, opposite to the Grand Palais.

The interior part of the nave of the Musée d’Orsay is shown, its arches embellished with a fine application of gold. The Orsay clock features at the centre of the coin, a reminder of the building’s previous purpose: a train station. The Petit Palais’s exceptional façade, spanning over 150 metres, is portrayed in the lower part of the coin. Above the building there is a close-up detail of the main entrance gate. An application of black rhodium accentuates the curving lines of the two buildings.
