Member Price: S$920.00 S$800.00
Emperor Asoka built the Mahabodhi Temple at the spot where Lord Buddha gained enlightenment. Today, Mahabodhi Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where hundreds flock to worship and learn about the life of Lord Buddha. Founded in approximately 250BC, this architectural landmark of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment site is one of the few surviving examples of early brick structures in India. The entire temple complex covers a sweeping area of nearly 4.8 hectares and the tallest tower is a staggering 55 metres in height.
On the reverse of the coin, the Meto Pema (lotus) is featured. The lotus is one of the most poignant representations of Buddhism, symbolising the complete purification of body, speech and mind. Growing from the mud, the lotus emerges through the clear water, finally coming to rest on the surface in the form of a beautiful flower. This pattern of growth signifies the transformation of the soul, from the dregs of materialism, to the purification of the soul, and into the clarity of enlightenment.
