Shop/International Coins (By The Singapore Mint)/Bhutan World Buddha Heritage Series
Each year, thousands of visitors flock to Leshan City, Sichuan Province for a glimpse of the spectacular Leshan Giant Buddha – the largest Buddha carved in stone.
This imposing Leshan Giant Buddha statue is the selected focal point of the 4th coin in the Buddha World Heritage series. Destined to be a collector’s item, the magnificent stature and serene-looking mien of the Maitreya Buddha are beautifully captured on the obverse.
Buddha’s exceptional aura which manifests as an emanating glow, is skilfully depicted on the coin. When the coin catches light, dazzling rays appear to radiate from the Buddha.
The Khorlo takes its place on the reverse of the coin. The Khorlo, or the Wheel, symbolises Buddha’s teachings and the turning of the wheel is an allegory of spiritual change brought about by Buddha’s teachings. The eight spokes of the wheel represent the Noble Eightfold Path which is a code of conduct following Buddha’s teachings to a life free from suffering and leading to enlightenment.
The rich historical, cultural and religious significance encapsulated in this coin makes it a valuable addition to any collection.
