ABOUT THIS COIN

Guan Yu, a famous general during the era of the Three Kingdoms (206BC – 220 AD), was one of the best known historical figures in ancient Chinese history. Guan Yu was highly skilled in military affairs and due to his loyalty and righteousness, he has been worshipped by generations in many parts of Asia. Guan Yu is honoured as a god of war and wealth, and it is believed that he blesses good fortune and protects wealth.

Minted in high relief, Guan Yu stands tall against a background of a banner flag embroidered with his surname ‘关’, while holding his iconic Green Dragon Crescent Blade. His name in chinese “关羽” is engraved next to him.
