Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest and most iconic palace of the Five Grand Palaces in Korea. Built in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbokgung which means “palace greatly blessed by Heaven”, is located in the heart of Seoul surrounded by Mount Bugaksan and Mount Namsan. The traditional roof ridges of the Gyeongbokgung Palace are decorated with various animal-shaped roof tiles and figures to demonstrate the dignity and grandeur of the architecture and to chase away evil spirits and misfortune.
