Shop/Coins From Around The World/Japan 47 Prefectures

As the 33rd coin of the Japan 47 Prefectures Coin Series, this Ehime coin features the Dogo Hot Spring main building, also known as Dogo Onsen. Dogo Onsen has more than three thousand years of history, and was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1994. Accompanying the design highlights the Mikan oranges, in which the Ehime Prefecture is one of the major production areas for mikan oranges or otherwise known as Citrius unshiu. The combination of the Dogo Onsen and mikan oranges as the obverse design of the Ehime coin undoubtedly captures the very essence of the Ehime prefecture.
The Japan 47 Prefectures Coin Series is issued since 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Local Autonomy Law; it highlights the cultures and customs of the various prefectures in Japan.
