The Royal Birth 2013 UK 5 pound Silver Proof Coin (St George & The Dragon)

Certificate of authenticity issued by The Royal Mint (UK). 2013 was a year of Royal Celebrations, for not only does Her Majesty The Queen mark the 60th anniversary of her Coronation in 2013, but also the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcome their first baby. Their child will be third in line to the throne, the great-grandchild of a beloved monarch. The Queen is the first reigning monarch in 120 years to greet a great-grandchild destined to succeed the throne. Queen Victoria welcomed her great-grandsons Edward VIII and the Queen's own father, George VI. A Masterpiece Reborn : As befits such an important event, they call on their most special coin design. St George first appeared on English coins with the George nobles, gold coins issued during the reign of Henry VIII. In 1817 Benedetto Pistrucci, famed engraver, created a St George and the dragon design for the coins of George III. It has become a numismatic classic, gracing the golden Sovereigns of almost every monarch since. And to this day, Pistrucci's St George, remodelled by Percy Metcalfe, sits at the heart of the George Cross, the highest honour awarded to civilians for gallantry. On only a few occasions has Pistrucci's masterpiece been struck in anything other than gold. The national celebrations surrounding the arrival of a future monarch represent just such an auspicious time, with St George and the dragon transferred to a 5 pound coin and struck in silver. Limited Issue Royal Birth £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.
