2020 is the 600th anniversary of foundation of the Forbidden City. To commemorate this special historical moment, Samoa has honored launched the most distinctive Chinese-style architectural structure -- the Forbidden City Caisson ceiling commemorative silver coin.
This coin features the Caisson ceiling of Taihe Palace is located in the middle of the Forbidden City’s main hall. It is divided into an upper layer, middle layer and lower layer. The upper layer has a round caisson, the lower layer has a square caisson, and the middle layer has an octagonal caisson. The design embodies China's traditional saying of "Heaven above and on earth" and "round sky and square earth”. There is an intricate carving of the golden dragon that bow and look down from the center of the caisson ceiling, with a Hsuan-yuen mirror in its mouth. It contrasts with the golden dragon on the giant pillar in the hall, which further highlights the solemnity and luxury of the imperial palace.
